A hidden speakeasy offering unique mixology experiences—with or without alcohol—in an undisclosed location in San Miguel de Allende.
Mixtura is one of San Miguel’s best-kept secrets. Tucked inside a hotel lobby, it’s only accessible with a reservation or invitation from its creator, Héctor Quiroz.
“The project started with HQM Gestor de Emociones, an event and experience production company,” says Quiroz. “About ten years ago, we launched mixology events for corporate clients. It took off—until COVID paused everything. Then we moved to my family’s hotel downtown and opened a space dedicated to mixology about four years ago.”
Though not a trained bartender, Héctor has a background in marketing, international business (studied in Finland), and hotel management. His entry into mixology was self-taught, driven by passion.
Mixtura is set in a 1740s historic building along the old Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. Inside, a moody, art deco-inspired space features artwork by Ana Ragá, Guillermo Colmenero, Sofía Crimen, Daniel Escobedo, and Alexander Mayet.
Their curated drink experiences include pre-Hispanic infusions, aphrodisiacs, mezcal, sotol, bacanora, pulque—and even wine infused with mezcal—sourced from local producers.
What’s different about Mixtura?
“You don’t just sip cocktails—you learn to make them. We focus on original recipes, new textures, and flavors. You leave with something you can recreate at home.”
What about alcohol-free experiences?
“We’re mindful about consumption. This isn’t a place to lose control—it’s a space to enjoy and connect. Younger generations drink less, so we’ve embraced alcohol-free gins, tequilas, and more—and yes, the parties are still great.”
“Mixtura isn’t a bar,” Héctor says. “It’s an immersive experience—crafted with care and designed to be unforgettable.”
